What are cefixime tablets?

CEFIXIME (Suprax®) represents a category a cephalosporin antibiotic. It is prescribed for many kinds of infections, including those of the respiratory tract, ears, and urinary tract. Cefixime is also prescribed for the treatment of some sexually transmitted disease. Generic cefixime tablets are not currently available.

What are the best use instructions for this medicine?

This medicine should be taken by mouth with a full glass of water. The instructions on the prescription label should be followed carefully. You should take cefixime with meals or without it. In case cefixime upsets your stomach it can be helpful to take it with meals. It should be taken at defined intervals. Do not take the medicine at more doses than prescribed. Take all the quantity of your prescribed medicine even if you go to improvement. The prescribed doses should not be skipped.

Contact your pediatrician or health care professional regarding the use of this medicine in children. Special care may be needed.

Overdosage: If you feel you have taken too much of this medicine please immediately contact a poison control center or emergency room.

What if I find I have missed a dose?

If you find you have missed a dose, be sure to take it asap. If you find about the missed dose at the time for your next dose, take one dose only. Double or extra doses are not recommended. There should be necessarily left an interval of at least 10 -12 hours between doses.

What medicine should be in interaction with cefixime?

Inform your health care provider about all other medicines you are taking, including non-prescription medicines, nutritional supplements, and any other herbal products. Also necessarily inform your health care provider if you use alcohol drinks, and if your are smoking or using illegal drugs. These factors may have affect on the way the medicine works. Please consult your doctor before starting to take the m medicine, also stop them only under doctors' control.

What should I be attentive to while taking cefixime?

Inform your doctor if your symptoms do not show improvement in a few days. If you are taking this medicine for a long time, make sure to consult your health care provider for regular checks.

If you are diabetic you may also get a false-positive result for sugar in your urine. Please make sure to thoroughly check with your health care provider before you pass to another diet or change the dose of your diabetic medicine.

Treating diarrhea with over the counter products is not recommended. Consult your health care provider if your have diarrhea lasts more than 2 days.

If your treatment is prescribed for a sexually transmitted disease, you should necessarily avoid sexual contact until your treatment is over. Your sexual partner may also be in a need for treatment.

Keep them out of the reach of children.

The best conditions to keep the medicine at are to store them room temperature between 15 and 30 degrees C (59 and 86 degrees F). The container where the medicine is stored should be tightly closed. It should be also strictly protected from moisture. Any unused medicine the expiration date have passed should be thrown away.
