What is/are Asacol?

MESALAMINE is used for the treatment of the pain and inflammation which can be caused by ulcerative colitis. This medicine can also be used for other purposes; please inform your health care provider if you have any queries on use.

What should I tell my doctor before I take this preparate?

They need to know if you have any of these conditions: kidney illness
pyloric stenosis
allergic reaction to mesalamine, salicylates, other medicines, sulfites, foods, dyes, or
pregnant or trying to get pregnant
breast-feeding

How should I use this medicine?

Taking this medicine is recommended by mouth with a glass of water. Follow the directions carefully on the prescription label. Crushing the tablets neither is nor recommended. Take your doses at defined intervals. Do not intake your drugs more often than prescribed. Do not stop taking this medicine except of the cases your doctor has advised you to.

Consult your pediatrician with the reference to the use of this medicine in children. Please note that special care may be necessary.

Overdosage: If you think you have taken overdosage please contact a poison control center or emergency immidiately.

An important note: This medicine is for you only. Sharing the medicine with others is not recommended.

What if I miss a dose?

If you found you have missed a dose, take it asap. If you found about the missed dose at the time for your next dose, take only that dose. Double or extra doses are not recommended.

What may affect with this medicine?

What side effects may I notice from this medicine?

If you feel you have side effects you should report to your health care provider immediately:
allergic reactions, itching or hives, tumor of the face, lips, or tongue
bloody diarrhea
chest pain
hard breathing, wheezing
fever
difficulty passing urine
extremely weak or tired
yellowing of the eyes or skin

Side effects which usually do not require medical attention are like following:
headache
sickness and nausea
stomach gas
stomach pain or spasm

The side effects are not limited to the above- mentioned.

What should I be aware of using this medicine?

You should take your doctor if your symptoms do not get better in several days after the start of medicine use. The improvement should be observed already in 3 to 21 days. It can take you approximately 6 weeks of treatment to get real improvement.

Changing the brand of this medicine without prior consultation to the doctor is prohibited. All brands have different doses.

You can also notice the empty shell from this category of drugs in your stool. If this is observed by you frequently, please contact your doctor immediately.

Where this medicine should be better kept?

These drugs should be kept out of the reach of children.

Please store the medicine at room temperature between 20 and 25 degrees C (68 and 77 degrees F). Do not use any medicine after the expiration date defined on the label.

What the shelf life of the pills levels to?

The expiry date is de fined on each blister. It may vary from batch to batch. The shelf life is 2 years from the date of production of the medicine and may differ from one batch to another.
