Diet Helps Improve Men’s Sexual Function

Study carried out by Australian researchers suggests that men suffering from ED can help themselves by losing weight, instead of taking pills like Viagra, Cialis and Levitra.

Man on a diet

According to a study published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine on Friday, August 5th, 2011, men suffering from erectile dysfunction can improve their sexual life without drugs like Viagra, Cialis or Levitra.

Researchers are determined that even a little weight loss can improve men’s sexual function. The author of the study, Dr. Gary Wittert, professor of medicine who works in Australia (Adelaide University), put several men suffering from ED and type II diabetes on a calorie diet. As soon as the patients lost some weight, their sexual and urinary problems reversed; the effect lasted for almost a year.

Commenting on the findings, Dr. Wittert recommends: “Instead of sitting down in front of the telly, take your wife by the hand and say, Come, darling, let’s go for a walk. After a month of this, her heart will get fonder and your erection will get stronger.”

Other researchers, however, think that the results of Dr. Wittert’s study should be taken carefully as the group of patients only consisted of 31 men.

Meanwhile, an earlier study carried out in Cleveland also showed that losing weight improves sexual symptoms in men diagnosed with diabetes.

Antioxidants Might Help Treat Erectile Dysfunction

US and Spanish scientists are determined that new antioxidants might help treat infertility in women and erectile dysfunction in men.

Natural antioxidants

A new study revealed that antioxidants might help treat infertility, including erectile dysfunction. Similar research has already been carried out earlier, but its results were incomplete.

Now, scientists from the Linus Pauling Institute at Oregon State University and the Madrid Institute for Advanced Studies in Spain showed that nutritional therapies might have a significant treatment effect on infertility in both, men and women.

As such, Tory Hagen of the Linus Pauling Institute, said that “if oxidative stress is an underlying factor causing infertility, which we think the evidence points to, we should be able to do something about it.” He said that lab studies, which focused on new antioxidants like lipoic acid, were very promising.

Scientists, who led the research, are determined that erectile dysfunction in men and infertility in women can be treated with the help of antioxidants should new approaches be developed and implemented.

New ED Drug Might Enter the US Market

Viagra and Cialis might face competition from avanafil, a new ED treatment by Vivus Inc., should it gain approval from the US FDA.

VIVUS Inc.

Earlier this month Vivus Inc., a pharmaceutical company, announced that it has submitted the NDA (New Drug Application) to the US Food & Drug Administration.

The company hopes that its new drug, avanafil, which has successfully passed safety and efficacy clinical trials, will become an alternative to leading ED drugs like Cialis and Viagra.

The results of the clinical trials, which were held among 1,350 men suffering from erectile dysfunction, showed that the drug is well tolerated by most men and helps them get an erection in 15 minutes.

Just as Viagra, Cialis and Levitra, avanafil is a PDE-5 inhibitor.

The approval from the US FDA might take several months, but should it be granted to Vivus Inc., manufacturers of Viagra and Cialis might face strong competition in the industry.

Let us remind that most pharmaceutical companies are currently introducing new ED products or uses of the existing drugs.

Beware of Sexy Drinks, Says Food Standards Australia New Zealand

Australian foods and drinks watchdog warns men against consumption of sexy drinks known to contain analogues of sildenafil, Viagra’s active ingredient.

Sexy drinks are dangerous

Today, on July 18th, Food Standards Australia New Zealand issued a warning to all men looking to improve their sex lives.

They were recommended to steer clear of so-called “sexy drinks” like Sexpresso and Rock Hard, which are based on caffeine and analogues of Viagra.

The watchdog held several tests of these drinks, which proved that a substance similar to Viagra’s active ingredient, sildenafil, is contained in both drinks. It is important to note that, according to Australian laws, adding such substances to foods and drinks is illegal, which is probably the reason why the drug was not listed as an ingredient on the labels of Sexpresso and Rock Hard.

Commenting on the possible danger these drinks pose to men’s health, experts at Food Standards Australia New Zealand said that “consumers who are using this product should stop taking it immediately and speak to a doctor if they are experiencing side effects.” They also highlighted that men and women should be extremely careful about foods and drinks that are sold without prescription and claim to treat physical conditions. Consumption of such foods and drinks can only be possible upon approval from a doctor.

Viagra Might Be Replaced with a Medical Gadget Viberect

A new medical device for treatment of erectile dysfunction got FDA approval in the US. It claims to help men get sustainable erection in just 10 minutes!

Viberect by Reflexonic

Several days ago a US-based medical device technology firm, Reflexonic, claimed that it received approval from the US FDA for its Viberect device.

The new gadget is said to help men suffering from erectile and ejaculatory dysfunction to improve their sexual lives.

Experts at Reflexonic are determined that the new technology will “bring wellness of society,” which is full of men with weak sexual potency.

The Viberect devide works by stimulating nerves of dorsal and ventral surfaces of the penis, which are believed to be responsible for the erection. The stimulation with special Softpads occurs at a very high frequency of 70-110 Hz.

Reflexonic specialists claim that a 10-minute session is enough for any men to get a sustainable erection.

This is the first medical device for treatment of ED ever approved by the US FDA.

It is priced at $300 + shipping and handling, the same as a 4-month course of Viagra.

Restless Leg Syndrome Linked to Impotence

Harvard researchers believe that restless leg syndrome (RLS) might be linked to erectile dysfunction in men aged 60 and over; other sleep disorders might also cause impotence.

RLS

A new research recently performed by scientists at the Harvard University suggests that erectile dysfunction might be linked to restless leg syndrome (RLS). Earlier, similar research was performed in Minneapolis and yielded the same results.

The study by Harvard scientists led by Dr. Xiang Gao, instructor at Harvard Medical School, was performed among 11,000 men aged 60+. All men were initially healthy (no diabetes, arthritis or ED), however, in the course of the study 1,979 of participants were proved to suffer from erectile dysfunction caused by RLS. Scientists concluded that restless leg syndrome increases men’s chances to be affected by erectile dysfunction by 50%.

Commenting on the findings, Dr. Xiang Gao, said that “the mechanisms underlying the association between RLS and erectile dysfunction could be caused by hypofunctioning of [the brain chemical] dopamine in the central nervous system, which is associated with both conditions.”

Authors also believe that RLS and impotence can be linked to other sleep disorders, like obstructive sleep apnea and sleep deprivation.

Bad Breath Might Lead to Erectile Dysfunction

A research recently published in the Journal of Sex and Medicine suggests that bad breath and crooked teeth might lead to severe sex problems like erectile dysfunction.

Men's dental hygiene

A recent study published in the Journal of Sex and Medicine suggests that erectile dysfunction might be linked with poor dental hygiene.

Not only can bad breath, crooked teeth and bleeding gums be aesthetically unpleasant; such dental conditions as periodontitis might negatively affect men’s sexual health.

The research, the subject of which, by the way, were rats, revealed that increased inflammation levels might lead to heart disease. The latter, in its turn, have long been linked with erectile dysfunction.

Moreover, periodontitis in rats, and, supposedly in men, leads to low level of eNos enzymes. This enzyme is responsible for the production of nitric acid that relaxes blood vessels and increased blood flow to the penis.

Of course, many scientist remain skeptic of the findings by saying that linking poor penile performance with poor dental hygiene is too much, the authors of the research are determined that this might be the case. They plan on doing more research on humans.

The research published in the Journal of Sex and Medicine was only carried on male rats and has nothing to do with female dental hygiene and ladies’ sexual health.
