Moderate Consumption of Red Wine Raises Libido Level among Women

Wine and sexuality are closely connected: the scientists from the Turin and Florentine Universities have come to such a conclusion when they first analysed the connection between the consumption of wine and sexual function by the example of healthy women, as El Mundo reports.

798 women having permanent partners were divided into three groups. The representatives of the first group drank one or two glasses of wine every day (it’s considered to be moderate consumption), while those of the second didn’t drink at all, the third drank from time to time, less than a glass a day. Their sexual activity was valued on the basis of the female sexual function according to the six categories: desire, excitability, lubrication function, orgasm, satisfaction and painful sensations.

The findings of the scientists published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine show that the women having one or two glasses a day of red wine got more points in the estimation of desire, lubrication function and general sexual function than the representatives of the other groups. The other aspects of women’s sexuality were not influenced by alcohol, the newspaper reports.

The authors of the investigation admit that the “mechanism by means of which this drink influences the sexual function of women is unknown”. One of the hypotheses is that such an improvement is caused by poly-phenols which are more numerous in red wine than in other kinds of wine and hot drinks. It’s known that phlavonoids containing in wine can improve endothelial function which promotes widening of arteries and thus influences sexual relationship.

The publication reminds that some other useful properties of wine were proved some time before: it reduces the risk of cardiovascular diseases and death rate.
