Asthma Might Be Linked to Erectile Dysfunction

Researchers from a university in Taipei recently revealed that one of the possible risk factors for erectile dysfunction is asthma.

Asthma and ED

According to the results of a study published in The Journal of Sexual Medicine, asthma may be one the risk factors for a widespread sexual disorder in men, ED.

The study was carried out by Kun-Ta Chou, M.D. and his colleagues from National Yang-Ming University in Taipei among 17,302 men aged 18-55. Of these sampled patients 3,466 were recently diagnosed with asthma while 13,836 did not suffer from this disorder.

The results revealed that asthma increases the risk of erectile dysfunction by 1.9 times independent of age. It also demonstrated that the risk of ED increases as the severity of asthma grows.

Commenting on the findings, the researchers said that “Asthma may be a significant risk factor for ED, and the risk probably increased in accordance with asthma severity. Whether intensive treatment for asthma can slow the development or progression of ED warrants further investigation.”

The full version of the report by Kun-Ta Chou and colleagues can be found in the Journal of Sexual Medicine or online.

What is Viagra?

what is viagra

Viagra is produced in 25, 50, and 100 mg tablets, which contain, respectively, 25, 59, and 100 mg of sildenafil citrate.

As opposed to other ways of erectile dysfunction treatment which consist in injections into the penis or other medical procedures, Viagra is a simple and easy-to-use preparation. When using Viagra, you just take one pill before having coitus.

The mechanism of Viagra effect is simple: the preparation increases the quantity of blood arriving to the penis. This helps a man to cause natural erection. Viagra has its effect only in thy case when a man is feeling natural sexual arousal, and when the coitus ends, the penis naturally relaxes. In other words, Viagra affects only natural mechanisms of erection and in this there’s its undeniable up-to-dateness and the secret of great popularity.

The discovery of Viagra became the third greatest “accidental” opening in medicine – after the opening of X-rays and penicillin. These discoveries were awarded Nobel Prize. This high award was also given in 1998 to the research people who discovered, in addition, the characteristics of Viagra.

The history of Viagra started in 1992 in Great Britain in the township Pfizer Sandwich in the course of pharmacology research work of Pfizer Corporation. The research people were probing the new pharmaceutical substance – Sildenafil Citrate – which was developed as the remedy for medication of some heart diseases.

The scientists expected that sildenafil citrate will promote increasing blood inflow to the cardiac muscle and lowering blood pressure. But it was noted that sildenafil citrate doesn’t influence much neither blood circulation in cardiac muscle (myocardium) nor blood pressure. At the same time it was found out that many patients of male sex taking part in the testing refused to return sildenafil pills, despite of the ending of the experiment. The reason was one among all the patients – they all noted erection recovery. Thus, in spite of the minimum influence of the new medicine on the blood circulation in myocardium, sildenafil caused perceptible blood inflow to male genital organs.

The research people of the pharmaceutical Pfizer Corporation took this unexpected quality quite seriously and managed to recognize powerful preparation for erection dysfunction combat. The new preparation was named Viagra – the name appeared as the result of junction of the words “Vigor” (power, energy, force) and Niagara – the most massive waterfall in North America.

Since 1993 prolonged clinical trials necessary for proving Viagra characteristics started. As the result of these trials high effectiveness of Viagra and its safety were proved. And after all on the 27th March, 1998 the USA Medical Supply Department approved the use of Viagra. The effect of the preparation was estimated among more than 3000 men from 19 to 87 of age during the research work of erectile dysfunctions held in all the countries of the world. The average duration of dysfunction was about 5 years (from 6 months to 26 years), while the nature of this malfunction was of organic, psychogenic, and combined psychogenic-organic origin.

The results of these research work show that Viagra is effective for erectile function recovery and for the improvement of successful coitus rates among a great number of the patients including those having diabetes, spinal cord injuries, and other concomitant clinical states, as well as among the patients taking a whole number of medicaments.

According to numerous clinical trials and testing the preparation on volunteers suffering from different types of erectile dysfunction, sildenafil citrate is quite effective. But some nuances should be noted.

Unfortunately, there exists no preparation able to treat all the diseases, in this case all the types of erectile dysfunction. Viagra isn’t a panacea either; it can help in the majority of cases, but not all the patients. Viagra is effective among the patients suffering from atherosclerosis, the injury of nerves of penis vessels, or diabetes.

Moderate results are observed among the patients with pathological venous drainage. In each of the enumerated cases only a doctor can organize erectile dysfunction treatment in the right way. He can prescribe the necessary treatment regimen and choose the best medicine.

Scientists Have Offered Another Panacea for Cancer

American scientists have offered another panacea from cancer – an implant with the vaccine applied to a biodegrading disk.

A group of researches from Harvard University under the direction of Dr. David Muni have constructed the likeness of a cell made from biodegrading polymer in which some “practice” lab consisting of porous polymeric matrix 90 % of which is occupied by air. The scientists applied cytokines (signal molecules) to it attracting special immune cells called dendritic.

Further according to the plan of Muni’s group is placed under the skin, while cytokines gradually penetrates into the ambient space creating the spectrum of concentration following which as a trace other dendritic cells get to the place of intrusion. In the tablets they find small fragments of genetic material similar to the DNA of bacteria. By them the dendritic bacteria detect that the invasion of aliens takes place. For the cell to know what to attack the fragments of the patient’s neoplasm are applied to the polymer. On their way back to the lymph nodes the dendritic cells seize all the molecules to transform the information to the T- lymphocytes and form the corresponding immune answer. The moment the implant gets inside the body the immune system finds out the dangerous material and starts it destruction. After that analogous “struggle” takes place in the whole organism.

The studies have shown that the application of the vaccine-implant allowed lowering the growth of neoplasms and raising the survival rate among mice with melanoma.

Ecstasy Heightens the Risk of Sleep Apnea

American scientists have found that ecstasy heightens the risk of sleep apnea – prolonged breath-holding in one’s sleep having negative consequences for health, PhysOrg reports.

The syndrome of sleep apnea is a widespread disease (about 15 per cent of Americans suffer from it). It can worsen the course of hypertension, coronary disease, and lower mental abilities and heighten the risk of heart attacks and strokes.

The scientists from Jones Hopkins University in Baltimore have carried out a study which included 71 people who had taken ecstasy for 25 and more times and 62 people of the control group. During the research all the volunteers were read polysomnocinematography allowing to estimate breath rhythm in sleep.

Light form of sleep apnea met more often in the control group, but moderate and serious forms were observed only in the group of ecstasy consumers – 13 and less than 1 per cent correspondingly.

At the same time the frequency of breath-holding directly depended on the duration of taking the preparation.

According to the researchers, such an effect of ecstasy is connected with metabolic disorder of serotonin neurotransmitter which also takes part in sleep and breath regulating.

Initially ecstasy is regarded as empatogen MDMA, though these homemade tablets contain a number of other psychoactive substances often exceeding the amount of MDMA.

In 2006 Brazilian scientists found out that sildenafil – the active component of Viagra – is able to worsen the course of sleep apnea.

Moderate Consumption of Red Wine Raises Libido Level among Women

Wine and sexuality are closely connected: the scientists from the Turin and Florentine Universities have come to such a conclusion when they first analysed the connection between the consumption of wine and sexual function by the example of healthy women, as El Mundo reports.

798 women having permanent partners were divided into three groups. The representatives of the first group drank one or two glasses of wine every day (it’s considered to be moderate consumption), while those of the second didn’t drink at all, the third drank from time to time, less than a glass a day. Their sexual activity was valued on the basis of the female sexual function according to the six categories: desire, excitability, lubrication function, orgasm, satisfaction and painful sensations.

The findings of the scientists published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine show that the women having one or two glasses a day of red wine got more points in the estimation of desire, lubrication function and general sexual function than the representatives of the other groups. The other aspects of women’s sexuality were not influenced by alcohol, the newspaper reports.

The authors of the investigation admit that the “mechanism by means of which this drink influences the sexual function of women is unknown”. One of the hypotheses is that such an improvement is caused by poly-phenols which are more numerous in red wine than in other kinds of wine and hot drinks. It’s known that phlavonoids containing in wine can improve endothelial function which promotes widening of arteries and thus influences sexual relationship.

The publication reminds that some other useful properties of wine were proved some time before: it reduces the risk of cardiovascular diseases and death rate.

Viagra Helped Women Taking Antidepressants

Female Viagra

The known preparation for erectile dysfunction treatment – sildenafil (Viagra) can help some women. According to the data of some American scientists, the regular taking of this preparation promotes the normalization of sexual function among women taking antidepressants.

Different dysfunctions of sexual function, such as decrease of sexual attraction, or anorgasmia, are the known side effects of many antidepressants – serotonin recapture inhibitors.

98 women, aged from 18 to 50 and suffering from sexual problems connected with taking antidepressants, took part in the testing carried out by the staff of New Mexico University. Two groups of women, equal in quantity, were offered to take sildenafil (50 – 100 mg), or placebo-pills analogous in shape and color 1 or 2 hours before the coitus.

Two months later the improvement of sexual life quality was noted by 72 per cent of women who had been taking sildenafil and only by 27 per cent of the placebo group. The inquiry has shown that sildenafil taking was connected with the decrease of complains about the abcence of sexual arousal or orgasm.

In one of the above-mentioned testing it has been found out that sildenafil is able to increase blood inflow to the clitoris, but it wasn’t possible to connect this effect with the quality of women’s sexual life.

According to the opinion of the authors of this testing, in the future the positive effect found out by them which is connected with sildenafil taking will help to solve the problems of the patients suffering from depression and interrupting their treatment because of the side effect of antidepressants.

Viagra Conquers Women’s Hearts

At present about 12 million men all over the world take Viagra. According to the information given by Pfizer Corporation, last year 7 million prescriptions were written to purchase Viagra. As many mass media reports say, in he nearest future Viagra will be actively used by women to cope with their sexual problems and even sterility.

Viagra can help to solve women’s sexual problems.

Nearly 40 % of women all over the world suffer from sexual disfunction.
This disorder is caused by many reasons. It can appear as a result of some somatic diseases, but often connected with psychological problems. Women’s sexuality is more difficult than men’s. Jennifer Berman, a urinologist, says: “It’s like apples and oranges. Though there some anatomic and embryological parallels, and physiologically vessels and nerve-endings react equally, the conditions of the appearance of sexual reactions have nothing in common!”

Among the symptoms of women’s sexual disfunction is the absence of sex appeal, disability to take delight in coitus, lack of vaginal lubricant, and disability to orgasms.

When a man and a woman become aroused, blood flows to their genital organs. Among women this process is accompanied by the enlargement of the clitoris and the neighbouring tissues (the analogue to men’s erection), vaginal lubricant secretion, widening and relaxing of the vaginal orifice. Women with sexual disorder feel desire, but their genital organs don’t react in the proper way, which leads to painful coitus and even to its impossibility.

The reason of sexual disorders can be high blood pressure, diabetes, irritation and infection in the area of the vagina, reactions to the contraceptives, depressions, disquietudes, and taking of medicine aimed at the lowering of blood pressure. The additive factors can be somatic, hormonal, psychical changes taking place during and after the pregnancy or breast feeding.

Speaking about the orgasm, it’s important to mention that for women orgasm is a prepared, not automatical answer. 5 – 10 % of women have never had an orgasm at any type of coitus. Anorgasmia (complete absence of orgasm) is the result of sexual inexperience, disquietudes, or previous negative experience. Orgasm disorder can be regarded as the problem only in case if it adversely affects the woman or her partner’s satisfaction.

To study the influence of Viagra upon sexual disorder among women clinical testing is being held now, in which 200 women-volunteers take part in.

The first tentative results have shown that the medicine promotes the increase of blood inflow to the genital organs and somatic stimulation of this area, which can make much good to women’s health. Laura Berman, a psychologist, stated: “We consider that considerable increase of sensibility, excitability take place, and as a result – the chance to have an orgasm”.

From the Dossier of “MA-MA” Clinics

Pfizer Corporation producing Viagra are now conducting their own research about the influence of the medicine upon women and the possibility of its combination with replacing hormonotherapy. Dr. Michael Sweeney, the manager of the medical department of Pfizer Corporation, said: “It was one of the areas not covered for a long period of time. Women have never complained of sexual dysfunction, so this problem has been paid little attention to. It’s necessary to give women the possibility to speak freely about the problems which bother them”.

60-year-old Eveline, one of the patients taking part in Viagra testing, says: “It’s a very delicate area. The hope for the improvement helps to make the relationship between a man and a woman less strained”.

It’s expected that the treatment of women with sexual problems with the help of Viagra will be more effective in combination with psychological consultations.

According to the prognoses, Viagra will be actively used by women in 3 years.

Viagra for Women over 50

Although the scientists haven’t yet got the clear notion of how Viagra influences upon women in menopause. According to the study published in the beginning of the previous year, the preparation doesn’t influence on elderly women. But according to the research work conducted by the group of scientists from Boston University, Viagra is good for women in postclimacteric period and after the surgical removal of the ovaries. In both cases the level of hormones is lowered which leads to the loss of sensation or lack of vaginal lubricant.

Dr. Jennifer Berman has conducted the study of 17 women in menopause or after the surgery. Every woman was taking either Viagra or placebo, and in three months the women who had been taking Viagra started to take placebo, and those having taken placebo – Viagra. Viagra caused the increase of the level of nitric oxide in the organism and as a result – the inflow of blood to the genital organs. The women noted the increase of lubricant quantity, the improvement of the ability if the organism to strengthen the feeling of satisfaction.

Though there are some problems to solve. 48 women from 22 to 47 have taken part in one more study of Dr. Berman’s in Boston University. All took Viagra and knew about it. But Viagra hasn’t improved the state of those women suffering from sexual problems owing to a nervous condition. These women reacted neither to Viagra nor to any other remedy. For women emotional and behavioural consequences of sexual dysfunction are more important.

Viagra Cures Sterility

As the recent report in the “Human Reproduction” Magazine says, the popular preparation can help interfile women become pregnant. Though women who have some problems with becoming pregnant shouldn’t run like lightning to buy the medicine hoping that it will solve their problems. Viagra influences only women with a specific problem – thin endometrium which doesn’t allow an embryo to be fixed in the interstice of the uterus.

Viagra helps men to cope with erectile dysfunction due to the increase of blood inflow to the penis. Doctors consider that it can increase the inflow to the uterus as well. This fact could promote the thickening of endometrium and raise the chance of an embryo to be fixed in the interstice of the uterus.

From the Dossier of “MA-MA” Clinics

According to the data of American scientists, three of four of sterile women became pregnant. The technology of using Viagra for curing some forms of women’s sterility was developed and carried out by the reproductologist from Las Vegas Jeffrey Sheer; though Viagra use isn’t safe. The side effect of this use is the increase of nitric oxide in the uterus which can be dangerous for the mother as well as for the developing embryo.

Jeffrey Sheer “invented” Viagra and started to use it in the form of vaginal suppositories which were injected to women 4 times a day. Dr. Sheer mentioned that just few women have thin endometrium.

Derek Machine said: “As it often happens, medicines poses new spheres of application which weren’t evident when they were developed. Any medicine is good to cure sterility!”
