At present about 12 million men all over the world take Viagra. According to the information given by Pfizer Corporation, last year 7 million prescriptions were written to purchase Viagra. As many mass media reports say, in he nearest future Viagra will be actively used by women to cope with their sexual problems and even sterility.
Viagra can help to solve women’s sexual problems.
Nearly 40 % of women all over the world suffer from sexual disfunction.
This disorder is caused by many reasons. It can appear as a result of some somatic diseases, but often connected with psychological problems. Women’s sexuality is more difficult than men’s. Jennifer Berman, a urinologist, says: “It’s like apples and oranges. Though there some anatomic and embryological parallels, and physiologically vessels and nerve-endings react equally, the conditions of the appearance of sexual reactions have nothing in common!”
Among the symptoms of women’s sexual disfunction is the absence of sex appeal, disability to take delight in coitus, lack of vaginal lubricant, and disability to orgasms.
When a man and a woman become aroused, blood flows to their genital organs. Among women this process is accompanied by the enlargement of the clitoris and the neighbouring tissues (the analogue to men’s erection), vaginal lubricant secretion, widening and relaxing of the vaginal orifice. Women with sexual disorder feel desire, but their genital organs don’t react in the proper way, which leads to painful coitus and even to its impossibility.
The reason of sexual disorders can be high blood pressure, diabetes, irritation and infection in the area of the vagina, reactions to the contraceptives, depressions, disquietudes, and taking of medicine aimed at the lowering of blood pressure. The additive factors can be somatic, hormonal, psychical changes taking place during and after the pregnancy or breast feeding.
Speaking about the orgasm, it’s important to mention that for women orgasm is a prepared, not automatical answer. 5 – 10 % of women have never had an orgasm at any type of coitus. Anorgasmia (complete absence of orgasm) is the result of sexual inexperience, disquietudes, or previous negative experience. Orgasm disorder can be regarded as the problem only in case if it adversely affects the woman or her partner’s satisfaction.
To study the influence of Viagra upon sexual disorder among women clinical testing is being held now, in which 200 women-volunteers take part in.
The first tentative results have shown that the medicine promotes the increase of blood inflow to the genital organs and somatic stimulation of this area, which can make much good to women’s health. Laura Berman, a psychologist, stated: “We consider that considerable increase of sensibility, excitability take place, and as a result – the chance to have an orgasm”.

Pfizer Corporation producing Viagra are now conducting their own research about the influence of the medicine upon women and the possibility of its combination with replacing hormonotherapy. Dr. Michael Sweeney, the manager of the medical department of Pfizer Corporation, said: “It was one of the areas not covered for a long period of time. Women have never complained of sexual dysfunction, so this problem has been paid little attention to. It’s necessary to give women the possibility to speak freely about the problems which bother them”.
60-year-old Eveline, one of the patients taking part in Viagra testing, says: “It’s a very delicate area. The hope for the improvement helps to make the relationship between a man and a woman less strained”.
It’s expected that the treatment of women with sexual problems with the help of Viagra will be more effective in combination with psychological consultations.
According to the prognoses, Viagra will be actively used by women in 3 years.
Viagra for Women over 50
Although the scientists haven’t yet got the clear notion of how Viagra influences upon women in menopause. According to the study published in the beginning of the previous year, the preparation doesn’t influence on elderly women. But according to the research work conducted by the group of scientists from Boston University, Viagra is good for women in postclimacteric period and after the surgical removal of the ovaries. In both cases the level of hormones is lowered which leads to the loss of sensation or lack of vaginal lubricant.
Dr. Jennifer Berman has conducted the study of 17 women in menopause or after the surgery. Every woman was taking either Viagra or placebo, and in three months the women who had been taking Viagra started to take placebo, and those having taken placebo – Viagra. Viagra caused the increase of the level of nitric oxide in the organism and as a result – the inflow of blood to the genital organs. The women noted the increase of lubricant quantity, the improvement of the ability if the organism to strengthen the feeling of satisfaction.
Though there are some problems to solve. 48 women from 22 to 47 have taken part in one more study of Dr. Berman’s in Boston University. All took Viagra and knew about it. But Viagra hasn’t improved the state of those women suffering from sexual problems owing to a nervous condition. These women reacted neither to Viagra nor to any other remedy. For women emotional and behavioural consequences of sexual dysfunction are more important.
Viagra Cures Sterility
As the recent report in the “Human Reproduction” Magazine says, the popular preparation can help interfile women become pregnant. Though women who have some problems with becoming pregnant shouldn’t run like lightning to buy the medicine hoping that it will solve their problems. Viagra influences only women with a specific problem – thin endometrium which doesn’t allow an embryo to be fixed in the interstice of the uterus.
Viagra helps men to cope with erectile dysfunction due to the increase of blood inflow to the penis. Doctors consider that it can increase the inflow to the uterus as well. This fact could promote the thickening of endometrium and raise the chance of an embryo to be fixed in the interstice of the uterus.

According to the data of American scientists, three of four of sterile women became pregnant. The technology of using Viagra for curing some forms of women’s sterility was developed and carried out by the reproductologist from Las Vegas Jeffrey Sheer; though Viagra use isn’t safe. The side effect of this use is the increase of nitric oxide in the uterus which can be dangerous for the mother as well as for the developing embryo.
Jeffrey Sheer “invented” Viagra and started to use it in the form of vaginal suppositories which were injected to women 4 times a day. Dr. Sheer mentioned that just few women have thin endometrium.
Derek Machine said: “As it often happens, medicines poses new spheres of application which weren’t evident when they were developed. Any medicine is good to cure sterility!”
